The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 priced at MSRP $19,375-$44,020 is one of the most nimblest and adequately energetic full sized pick up truck. This edition is designed to cater a large group of people ranging from general consumer to the contractor. It compete with other full size trucks like Chevy Silverado ,Dodge Ram and the Toyota Tundra.
What’s on offer?
The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 boasts of a new V8 option along with six speed automatic transmission. It also includes options such as XM traffic reporting and a back-up camera option that doesn’t require the optional navigation system, Bluetooth and OnStar. They have also integrated an optional XFE (extra fuel package) for the crew cab debuts.

The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in three body configurations viz. standard cab, extended cab and crew cab. The standard cab are available with standard 6 foot 6 inch standard bed or 8 foot long bed while the extended cabs are available in 5 foot 8 inch short bed or long bed option. The crew cabs are designed with short bed only to offer more maneuverability.
This edition offers a unique front fenders, impressive hood, bumpers, grille and cargo box styling which have been designed differently by the designers to offer a distinctive look in comparison to the GM’s Silverado edition however we found that the two trucks have similar body styling.
The 2009 GMC Sierra offers a brawny look due to its chiseled front end. The basic work truck is dressed in black grille while the other trims are clad in chrome grille. This edition offers a variety of wheel designs to enhance its look.
Overall the GMC Sierra 1500 has a very athletic body style which can be personalized without diminishing its basic features.
Inside the cabin
The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500’s interiors have been designed with an attractive dash design encompassed in good quality materials. The front row seats are quite comfortable which makes long road trips enjoyable. The rear seats are also adequately comfortable and the seat cushions flip upward to offer a nearly flat load floor. The interiors are quite spacious and offers ample of storage space.
Overall the Sierra’s interiors are quite spacious and well organized to impress the buyer.
Features of 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Pick Up Truck
The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 comes in four trim levels: Work Truck, SL (crew cab only), SLE and SLT. The base trim features air conditioning, vinyl seating, tilting steering wheels, Onstar, a CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack, and satellite radio. The SL trim nets keyless entry, full power accessories, adjustable lumbar support for the driver and cruise control.
The SLE trim offers more premium features like cloth upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, and an auto dimming rear view mirror. The upgraded SLT trim includes a Bose audio system with six CD changer, rear audio controls, rain sensing wipers, remote start, an exclusive dash design with wood and metallic accents and leather seating inside the cabin.
The GMC Sierra Denali gains over the SLT with special wheels, and exterior styling enhancements. It adds features such as unique powertrain, heated steering wheel, on-road-biased suspension tuning, and a turn-by-turn navigation feature for OnStar.
GM offers numerous optional packages to woo the buyers. The Z71 off road package is designed for off road capacities which include skid plates, an off road suspension, and a locking rear differential. They offer an option of All Terrain Package which is quite similar to the Z71 but offers enhanced interiors and exterior designs. For all the buyers who are very fuel conscious can opt for the XFE package(for two wheel drive crew cab) which includes light weight aluminum component, six speed automatic transmission and aerodynamic enhancements.
2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Pick Up Truck Powertrain
The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500is available with five different engine options. The basic work trucks are powered by 4.3 liter V6 engine which generates 195 horsepower and 260 pounds feet of torque. The SLE trim offers the option of 4.8 liter V8 engine which produces 295 hp and 305 pounds feet of torque along with an option of 5.3 liter V8 engine which would generate 315 hp and 338 pounds of torque.
The GM also offers an option of 6.0 liter V8 engine which can produce 367 hp and 375 pounds feet of torque. This powertrain is available on a few selected trims only.
The GMC Sierra Denali is powered by 6.2 liter V8 engine which would produce 403 hp and 417 pounds feet of torque.
All GM Sierra 1500 editions are equipped with four speed automatic transmission except Denali which offers six speed auto transmission. All buyers can select from 2WD or 4WD except for Denali which is equipped with All Wheel drive.
This Sierra XFE edition offers a fuel economy of 15/21/17 mpg while the Denali AWD offers a fuel economy of 12/19/14 mpg.
We noted that this edition offers a slightly larger turning circle when compared to other trucks of the same segment. The nimble suspensions offer a refined ride. The acceleration is also noteworthy the 6.0 liter V8 engine sprints from zero to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds while the Denali is much better.
2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Pick Up Truck Safety
The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 features antilock brakes on all editions. The V8 trucks are equipped with stability control system while the Denali adds side curtain airbags and adjustable pedals.
During the various crash test that were conducted to check the efficiency of these features, it scored a complete five stars for its protection of all occupants in head on and side impact collision.
Conclusion
The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 is a half ton full size pick up truck. The main advantages of this vehicle are it offers refined and quiet ride, seating is very comfortable and includes major safety features. The main drawbacks that were noted are mediocre interior storage space and larger turning circle than most competitors.
