2010 GMC Granite Concept debuts at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show
Posted in Trucking News on January 31, 2010
General Motors unveiled the new crossover concept GMC Granite at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. This edition might be a concept at the auto show but a similar vehicle known as the 2011 Orlando is already set to adorn the showroom windows in short span of time.
It is rumored that General Motors has plans to start sales of the Granite edition by 2012. The company has plans to introduce this edition as the smallest GMC vehicle ever introduced. This edition is two feet shorter than the GMC Terrain with a wheel base of 103.6 inches and is 60.5inches tall and 70.3inches wide.
The Granite edition would be powered by 1.4 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine which would generate 138 horsepower. It will be teamed with a rotation shifted six speed automatic transmission. This power train is expected to feature in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze sedan and the Orlando edition also. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt will also be powered in a non turbo form, range extender engine.

To accommodate passengers with better comfort it is equipped with rear doors that are rear hinged similar to the Honda Element. The interior cabin is quite spacious with comfortable seats. The rear side seats flip forward to make additional space for cargo. The interiors are well dressed in suede cloth upholstery and buff colored trims. The Granite edition is quite tech savvy and features a large LED screen that controls the audio, climate and navigation functions.
Overall the Granite has impressive front fascia with blocky headlamps and squared off grille which wears the GMC badge in big red letters. Its rear end looks familiar with some styling cues picked up from other editions.
