Introduction of 2010 Jeep Commander

The 2010 Jeep Commander priced at MSRP $ 31,575 -$ 42,830 is an affordable large SUV. It is quite spacious and can comfortably seat seven passengers. It is ideally designed for all those wish to buy a vehicle with a good off road capability and plenty of passenger space. This edition competes with Chevy Tahoe or Chevrolet Traverse.

What on offer?

The 2010 Jeep Commander has replaced the 4.7 liter V8 engine with 5.7 liter V8 engine. The Overland trim has been discontinued leaving it with the selection of just two trims Sport and Limited. This new edition sports third row seats and fog lights as standard equipments on the Sport model.

The 2010 Jeep Commander has a boxy style classic looks which would appeal to all Jeep aficionados. Its impressive retro styling makes it more desirable with most buyers.

Inside the cabin

The 2010 Jeep Commander has comfortable front row seats. The second row seats are stadium styled and raised which offers a good view to the occupants. However taller passengers will find it difficult to seat for long drives due to limited leg space. The third row seats are much more cramped than the second row and are ideal for children.  This edition boast a of 7.5 cubic feet of cargo space and can extend to 69 feet when the second and the third row seats are folded which is not very impressive in comparison to its competitors.

The 2010 Jeep Commander offers the option of 3.7 liter V6 engine in the Sports edition that pumps out 210 horsepower and 235 pounds feet of torque. It is available in either two wheel drive or four wheel drive. The basic Quadra Trac 4WD can be upgraded to the full time active Quadra Trac II 4WD. This edition does not offer much grunt in the acceleration. It offers an estimated fuel economy of 15 mpg city levels, 20 mpg on highway and 16 mpg combined. When properly equipped the V6 engine can tow a maximum of 6,500 pounds.

The Jeep Commander Limited edition is powered by 5.7 liter V8 engine which generates 357 horsepower and 389 pounds feet of torque. This burly engine is available as an option in the Limited trim. It is available in either two wheel drive or four wheel drive. The full time Quadra Trac II 4 WD is standard on the Limited edition. The more advanced Quadra Drive II system is available as on an option and includes  front and rear  electronic limited  slip differential, hill start assist and  hill descent control. This engine offers a better acceleration and a fuel economy of 14 mpg city level, 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined. When properly equipped, this edition can tow a maximum of 7,400 pounds.

The 2010 Jeep edition offers a smooth ride on highways but bumps on the roads give unnecessary body jerks.

Features of 2010 Jeep Commander

The 2010 Jeep Commander is available in two trim levels Sport and Limited. The Sport edition features 17 inch alloy wheels, a roof rack, full power accessories, an eight way power driver seat, front and rear air conditioning, heated exterior mirrors, rear parking sensors, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and a six speaker audio system with a CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio. It offers the option of  Sun and  Sound  Group which  adds  heated front seats, a sun roof,  a rear view camera,  leather upholstery ,a touch screen navigation system with real time traffic reporting, an auto dimming  rear view mirror, Bluetooth and an upgraded  music system with ipod integration and a 30GB music server.

The Limited edition additionally includes remote engine start, heated second row seats, auto dimming exterior mirrors, power adjustable pedals, dual zone climate control, a power lift gate and driver seat memory. This edition offers the option of Xenon headlights and a rear seat entertainment system. It also offers the option of towing package.

The Sport and the Limited edition feature the option of chrome exterior trim package on both the trims.

The 2010 Jeep Commander is equipped with various safety features such as full length side curtain airbags, antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control with rollover mitigation.

During the various crash tests that were conducted to check the efficiency of this edition it scored a complete five stars for frontal collision protection.

Conclusion

The 2010 Jeep Commander is a mid size SUV with a strong V8 engine, impressive off road capabilities, comfortable and quiet interiors, and a lengthy features list. The main drawbacks that are noted are small third row seat, poor base V6 engine, unimpressive cargo space and lower fuel economy.
