2010 Toyota Tundra – Oldest yet Capable Pickup Option

Posted in Toyota Trucks, Truck Reviews on April 1, 2010

First Look

When Toyota Tundra debuted right at the beginning of new millennium it was seen as the first import-brand-full size pickup to compete with the established leading pickup manufacturers. Despite having a lot of things in its favor, the start for Toyota Tundra wasn’t easy in the market and in the first year it caught attention of people looking pickups for recreational activities rather than the hardcore truck buyers. But the 2010 Toyota Tundra is a totally redesigned truck and Toyota hope to attract people like sovereign contractors, or the people needing pickups for pulling boats and heavy trailers.

The 2010 Toyota Tundra with its American-built will feature in three cab sizes, three engine choices and three bed lengths. The half-ton pickup truck with avowedly full-size dimensions will now be standing with or above the competing half-ton pickups.

What’s New for 2010 Toyota Tundra?

The 2010 Toyota Tundra comes with even more hefty midrange V8 in addition to the stripped-down Work Truck packages and high-end Platinum. Some other changes that might lure the potential buyers includes, small cosmetic fine-tunes, like the introduction of front-seat knee airbags. Some another enhancements in the new 2010 Toyota Tundra includes two fresh audio choices, folding tow mirrors, a power direct rear window and an in-mirror back-up camera video display.

The significant changes that the pickup truck market has gone through in recent times have compelled all the leading pickup manufacturers to not only concentrate on the functionality of the truck but also on providing the luxury and modern amenities to the buyers.  This is why the 2010 Toyota Tundra not only is a potent pickup, but also is a luxurious car.

Body Styling and Features

The half-ton pickup 2010 Toyota Tundra could be bought in three body styles: regular cab, Double Cab or crew cab and CrewMax or truly big crew cab. You can get the Regular and Double Cabs with either a 6.5 foot bed or can order an 8 foot bed, whereas for the CrewMax there only is one bed option of 5.5 foot bed. Tundra will be available in two trim levels of Grade and plush Limited. It should be noted that the regular cab comes only in Grade trim.

The basic features for Regular Cab includes 18 inch steel wheels, a tilt-steering wheel, a 40/20/40 burst cloth bench seat, a stereo with auxiliary audio jack and CD, dual-zone manual climate control and rubber flooring. There are several luxurious options and features available with the higher versions of the Tundra and some of the modern features that you can expect are full power accessories, power-sliding rear window, controller double-up rear seats and carpeting. There are different packages available for the high end buyers that will allow them to include options and features of their choice.

Under The Hood

The 2010 Toyota Tundra is available in three engine choice. Pumping under the hood of Tundra regular cab and Double Cab is a 4.0-liter V6 engine generating maximum power of 236 hp and maximum torque of 266 pound-feet. Available either in two wheel or four wheel drive, this trim level is mated to five-speed automatic transmission (Tundra doesn’t have manual transmission) for transmitting power to any of the wheel option you have made.

The another engine option on these and all the other Tundras’ is the 4.6-liter V8 engine generating maximum power of 310 hp and max torque of 327 lb-ft. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. The last and the most powerful engine, which is optional on all the trims is the 5.7-liter V8 engine generating maximum power of 381 hp and maximum torque of 401 lb-ft, and it again is mated to standard six speed automatic transmission. The V8 engine makes this truck really fast and in our test it sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in mere 6.9 secs.

Verdict

Despite being one of the oldest pickup truck in the market, the immense improvements and enhancements makes the 2010 Toyota Tundra a top-notch selection for a workhorse pickup. If you also are looking for one then the 2010 Toyota Tundra with excellent utility and strong performance is a great choice for you.
