2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty Pickup Truck Review
Posted in Ford Trucks, Pickup Trucks on September 25, 2009
Ford has built many pick up trucks in their life span, each one of them was able to kick ass in their own way. They had it all, good power, good performance, reliability and all for a very reasonable price. Now, they are moving forward with the all revamped workhorses the super duty, F-series. The top dog Ford trucks all sport a more refined and refreshed look but the details on the outside are not very different from the previous top dog trucks.
The size of the truck has been increased significantly, the F-series will now sport two thick bars chrome grill with the ford badge in the center. The headlights have been restyled while the bonnet and the bumpers have been beefed up. This restyling gives it a more road-train kind of look but the major changes are all underneath the bold and rugged exterior. Under the hood, there is a brand new compact graphite iron, 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel engine. Ford have stated that compact graphite iron is stronger than cast iron had is also light in weight, which allowed them to increase the 6.4 liter to a 6.7 liter. Even the cylinder heads are made out of aluminum. Ford has used a Single-Sequential Turbocharger, which collects the power of two compressors and one turbine into a single housing. The SST provided more quick responses. The throttle responses have also been significantly improved.
The fuel injectors have something called the piezo injectors that can deliver up to five events per cylinder, and fuel is delivered at up to 30,000 psi. To reduce NOx emissions, the ford engine has also been equipped with a SCR system, which uses an after treatment of Diesel Exhaust Fluid… There are two options available in petrol, a 6.8 liter V10 and a 6.2 liter V8. All the engine configurations are supposed to have received a boost in fuel efficiency. These engine configurations are mated to a six-speed TorqShift transmission. The engine performances have not yet been confirmed but some claims state a 350 bhp with a torque of 650 pound- feet.
The ride and handling also are much, much better with a new modified suspension system and numerous braking electronics such as the hill ascent control and hill decent control, trailer sway control and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control which has been standardized on the truck. There also is an exhaust brake.
The ford has not released the payload and towing capacity of the F-series, but they did confirm that it would be more than the outgoing series. So, you can expect it to; haul a trailer of at least 24,000 pounds.
It is very unusual for a truck to be high- tech and provide extreme luxury when you’re carrying gravel and bricks and logs of wood or whatever. The F-series will now provide you with a brand new interior, extremely comfortable seating with heaters. There is enough legroom and head room to pit a horse inside. There is a 4.2 inch LCD screen that displays all the maps, trailer brake control gain, inclinometer, fuel economy and trailer status data, it can be also customized to the stuff that you want to see or need.
Still there is a lot of work going on the Ford development factories, the F-series will be back with quite a big bang. All the engines will be available when it launches early next year, the prices are yet to be disclosed.
