You might have seen a lot of new cars, trucks and bikes in your neighborhood or in region, so what does all that mean to you? Confused, let us help you that mean only one thing and that is, recession is over people and so is the perpetual plummet of vehicle sale of the last two years or so. The same is applicable for the full-size and small pickup trucks, and we hope that this resurrection will bring some really interesting developments, which were held back due to monetary restraints. One of such major and in top of our mind development is the come back of regrettably dumped light-duty diesel engines from Ford, General Motors and Dodge. This was something that affected a lot of truck lovers and gave them a real shock.

One such news we found with the help of our auto reporters who reported that GM might be reconsidering the earlier shelved 4.5-liter Duramax diesel V8 engine for their pickups, but this time with a slight interesting twirl. The 4.5-liter Duramax diesel V8 oil burning PowerPlant initially was intended only for half ton trucks. But as per our recent reports GM now is planning to introduce it for its full-size pickup trucks as well. We even have heard that the 4.5-liter Duramax diesel V8 engine might also be powering some of the Heavy Duty models.

As per the reports from General Motors (GM), their 4.5-liter diesel V8 engine is “completely urbanized and all set” to enter the market. The new developed 4.5-liter Duramax diesel V8 engine will have the maximum power rating of 310 horsepower and maximum torque rating of 520 pound-feet. All these figures will just match what the bigger Duramax diesel engines were known for about a year ago and apparently will be sufficient for the 2500 class of trucks. Moreover, our reporters came to know from the General Motors’s technicians the still-running convoy of 4.5 diesel engines is delivering fuel economy of an imposing 25 miles per gallon.

So if you are fan of GM’s HD trucks and were waiting for a significant technical upgrade in them, then this news is what you’ve been waiting for. Let’s wait and watch when the engine roars in the market.

Trucking world is not the world where things will change too fast, and will change too frequently. As a matter of fact it takes several years for a pickup truck to receive even a single upgrade. But the proclaiming of 2011 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD has changed that believe, and as a matter of fact the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD will be one of the fastest upgraded pickup with the time between the two models being of mere four years. The thing that caused this upgrading was the tough emission standards, and the urge to develop a diesel-powered pickup truck meeting the new federal standard.

With the images it becomes pretty clear that there is not much change in the aesthetics of the Silverado/Sierra HD, in point of fact the only tweaks that it has got in terms of external designing includes fresh front griller and bumper, 20 inch wheels (for the first time) and a louvered hood. Talking of hood brings us to the engine options you will get for Silverado/Sierra HD; all new pickup will offer two engine choices: first being a gas 6.0 liter Vortec V 8 engine and the second being a 6.6 liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8. At time of writing this report the SAE testing on the engines was not done and hence the torque and power rating for the two engines can not be told, although we expect both the engines to be high power and torque, just as any other V8 engine will do.

The Silverado/Sierra HD’s 6.0 liter Vortec V 8 engine will be mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission, while the 6.6 liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 will be mated to an Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. One another change worth mentioning will be given to the 6.0 liter engine, which will be in the form of camshaft profile which is said to generate more torque lower in the power band. The big news, though, is with the diesel.

There will be trivial change in the body dimensions for 2011 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD, though the body styles will remain the same. And the Silverado/Sierra HD will be offered in extended cab, crew cab or regular cab trim levels with all the trims available in short or long bed choice. Some another noteworthy change includes the increased wheelbase, which in comparison to 2010 models, is up by 0.3 across the line and now is 0.6 inches. Though the height remains the same for the wheels, but the width varies significantly depending upon the choice of the model.

High strength steel has been used this time and hence the body frames for Silverado/Sierra HD is completely boxed and the stiffness of now has increased to 92 percent. One of our very favorite enhancements here has been the reduction of Vibration in the trucks and GM this time has used larger transmission mounts and engine to attain a more stable ride. The extended and crew cab models 2011 Silverado/Sierra HD comes with hydraulic body mounts. All these new upgrading in the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD enhances the ride and performance of 2011 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD and will present us all with a more powerful, potent and catchy Pickup truck. So let’s wait and watch for this new powerful pickup to enter the market.

General Motors has announced at the national Bio diesel conference that their new edition diesel truck will feature B20 biodiesel capability. The B20 fuel offers a combination of 20 % bio diesel and 80% conventional diesel. This combination helps in lowering carbon dioxide emissions and reduces the dependence on petroleum.

General Motors has revised their 6.6 liter turbo diesel engine to feature B20 capability. This new engine will also be designed to meet the new emission standards laid down by the government.

The new Duramax will power the updated GMC Sierra heavy duty pick ups, 2011 Chevy Silverado, Chevrolet express and GMC Savana full size vans. GM has plans to unveil the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado heavy duty truck at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show that will be held on Feb 10.

B20 capability in heavy duty trucks will maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions and minimize the dependence of petroleum.

General Motors have always been appreciated for their continuous efforts in marketing of flex fuel vehicles which is capable of running on E85 ethanol. Bio diesel is similarly produced with renewable fuel from plant matter generally from soybean oil.

The bio diesel engines have undergone various tests and they perfectly meet the ASTM International Standard D7467 which covers bio diesel blends between B6 and B20.

General Motors has upgraded some seals and gasket materials to make the Duramax 6.6 liter engine fuel system compatible with B20. To reduce the chances of fuel getting waxed or gelled an additional heating of the fuel circuit was added. This system features a injector that supplies fuel for the regeneration process and saves fuel and works better with B20 than in cylinder post injection.

General Motors offers a five year /100,000 miles powertrain warranty on the Duramax diesel engines.

The 2010 Detroit Show is almost a week away but General Motors has boastfully released images of two new concepts that could be unveiled at the Cobe Hall. The new Urban Utility Concept is like a crossover vehicle which is smaller than the GMC Terrain and similar in size to the compact Scion xB.

General Motors have designed this edition aiming at the younger generation of buyers. The designers have well crafted the Urban Utility Concept with a modern box design and fusing it with a flexible functional social space. They have well designed a modern look. The images which depict the front fascia reveal that the exterior styling cues have been picked up from the Denali XT concept and the GMC Terrain. The GMC badge on its front grille offers an impressive look to this edition.

However for finer details about the new Urban Utility Concept we will have to wait till General Motors unveils a show car at the upcoming Detroit Show.

Keep Tuned and we will offer finer details about this new UUC concept directly from the Cobe Hall.

Introduction of 2010 GMC Canyon

The 2010 GMC Canyon priced at MSRP: $16,985-$29,835 is a compact pick up truck. The 2010 edition has been refurbished with new exterior colors, and powerful engine. This 2010 GMC Canyon edition still needs better updates to compete with the other trucks in the same segment. Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma are its closest contenders.

What’s on offer?

The 2010 GMC Canyon has received many minor changes in its exteriors with the introduction of three new colors. This edition now receives side airbags as a standard feature. The 5.3 liter V8 engine has been enhanced to offer better performance and improved emission.

Silhouette

The 2010 GMC Canyon features a sporty appearance due to its body colored moldings. Its rugged bodyline has picked up styling cues from the Colorado. The angular head light brow is one feature that has been procured from the Chevy cousin. Its front fascia is bright and bold which appeals to many buyers. The exterior body is styled in manner that bears a strong family resemblance to other GMC vehicles.

The new range of colors introduced by GM like Merlot Jewel Metallic, Gray Green Metallic and Pure Silver Metallic adds charisma to this edition.

The 2010 GMC Canyon sports three body styles regular cab, extended cab with short reverse opening doors and lastly the crew cab which features four forward swinging doors.

Inside the cabin

The 2010 Canyon edition is dressed in very plain and simple interiors. Its interiors look old fashioned and are crafted using substandard material. The seats are adequately comfortable in the front row, however the second row seat would offer discomfort to tall passengers. The engineers have well crafted the interiors and made place for plenty of under seat storage space.

The interior layout of this edition is simple and gauges are placed at comfortable locations.

Silhouette

The 2010 GMC Canyon is available in three offerings: base work truck, mid level SLE and Premium SLT.

The base edition features an array of features such as 16 inch steel wheels, air-conditioner, tilt adjustable steering wheel, bed liner, cruise control and satellite radio.

The SLE edition gains an upgraded front bench, OnStar and CD/MP3 player while the premium SLT trim further includes leather upholstery, heated power front bucket seat and auto dimming rear view mirror.

The 2010 Canyon edition presents some exciting packages like Z71 off road package which sports wheel flares, full size spare tire, front tow hooks, off road suspension, and limited slip differential. This edition has a taller height when compared to its predecessors.

For all the operators who wish to drive this edition on the streets can opt for ZQ8 package which includes 18 inch aluminum rims and lowered height.

2010 GMC Canyon Powertrain

The 2010 GMC Canyon work truck is powered by 2.9 liter cylinder that generates 185 hp and 190 pounds feet of torque. It also offers the alternative of 3.7 liter inline five cylinder engine which produces 242 horsepower and 242 pounds feet of torque.

They also offer an option of robust 5.3 liter V8 engine which generates 300 hp and 320 pounds feet of torque. They have added a variable valve timing to offer improved 5.3 liter V8 engine which generates 300 hp and 320 pound feet of torque.

The 2.9 liter base engine is coupled with five speed manual transmission while the other engines come with four speed automatic transmission.

The 2010 GMC Canyon model offers excellent handling when teamed with ZQ8 package. The brakes are impressive and halt the vehicle at short notice. The good performing suspension offers a smooth ride.

2010 GMC Canyon Safety

The 2010 GMC Canyon is equipped with standard front airbag, side curtain airbag, stability and traction control and On Star emergency communication.

During the various crash tests that were conducted to check the efficiency of this edition the regular cab and extended cab scored four stars for driver and front passenger protection in front impact test while the crew cab scored five stars.

Conclusion

The 2010 GMC Canyon is designed for all those who are looking at a small pick up truck that is maneuverable and fuel efficient. The main highlights of this edition are powerful and capable V8 engine, fuel efficient, and offer option of multiple body styles. The main disadvantages that were noted are mediocre interiors, and its longest bed is only six feet long.

Introduction of 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500HD priced at MSRP $26,815 – $44,120 has all the bare bone basic covered, that are needed for a utilitarian truck. This edition offers superior driving dynamics with plush interiors that combines with prodigious towing and hauling capacities. This GMC edition competes with Dodge Ram 3500, Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and Ford F350.

What’s on offer?

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is equipped with Blue tooth connectivity, and the latest version of OnStar which includes turn by turn navigation. It also offers options of latest features such as navigation system with real time traffic feature, and back up camera which is optional on extended and crew cabs.

Silhouette

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500HD is available in three body configurations and two rear axle designs viz. regular cab, extended cab and crew cab with the option of single or dual rear wheels. All the Sierra 3500 HD editions are equipped with eight foot long cargo bed.

This edition offers a visually distinctive body structure in comparison to its Chevy cousins and other Sierra models. This edition offers very unambiguous styling with imposing headlamps and hood along with a more prominent grille opening. General Motors have made perceptible changes in the overall fit and finish of tits body panel. The body has been designed with less space between the cab and cargo box for a smoother design. All models are dressed in chrome bumpers with fog lamps set into the bumpers to offer an upscale appearance.

Inside the cabin

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD features two different interior designs designed according to the trim level. The Work truck and the SLE edition features basic but functional dash design with an open lower centre portion to seat three people on the front bench. On the other hand the premium SLT trim is clad in a layout similar to the GMC Yukon SLT SUV. The SLT trim sports a classy centre stack design dressed in high-quality materials and wood and metallic accents.

The controls are straightforward and easy to reach on both the trims. However, we felt that dual-zone climate controls are small and difficult to operate with gloves

The interiors are spacious with comfortable seating. The rear seats can also comfortably seat adult passengers. We noted that the tilt only steering is situated very close to the dash which would be inconvenient for tall drivers.

Features of 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is available in three trim levels WT (work truck), SLE (mid level) and SLT (premium level).

The WT trim is equipped with basic features such as air conditioning, vinyl seating, front bench seat, tilt steering wheel, a trip computer, OnStar, CD audio system and satellite radio.

The SLE trim adds chrome style steel wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, cloth seating, leather wrapped steering, full power accessories, dual-zone automatic climate control and heated exterior mirrors.

The luxurious SLT trim sports remote engine start upgraded dash design, leather upholstery, remote engine start, an upgraded dash design, locking rear differentials, a heavy-duty trailering package with an integrated trailer brake controller, a Bose audio system with a six-CD changer and rear audio controls and 12-way power-adjustable heated front bucket seats.

2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Powertrain

The 2009 GMC 3500 HD is powered by 6.0 liter V8 engine which pumps out 353 hp and 373 pounds feet of torque. Six speed automatic transmission is standard on all editions. They offer an option of rear wheel or four wheel drive.

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD priced at MSRP $26,595 – $43,605 has been designed with all the basics that are expected of a utility truck. This edition has been designed to offer comfort and ride like a luxury sedan. This edition competes with Ford F 250 and Chevy Silverado 2500 HD but the GM trucks are more capable and offer an impressive interiors compared to its competitors.

What’s on offer?

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is equipped with standard length cargo box and stability control on all 2500 HD models. This edition also receives the latest version of OnStar, which includes turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and the optional navigation system offers an available real-time traffic feature. Back up camera is now available as an optional feature on extended and crew cabs.

Silhouette

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is available in three different body configuration viz. regular cab, extended cab and crew cab. Regular cabs come with a long bed while the crew cab and extended cab offers the option of standard or long bed.

This edition has a very resolute styling with impressive headlamps and hood along with a more pronounced grille opening. Its illustrious front fascia makes it visually distinct from the Chevy cousins and the GMC Sierra 1500 models. General Motors have made perceptible improvements in the overall fit and finish of the body panels. They have dressed all models in chrome bumpers for an upscale appearance. The body style has been crafted with less space between the cab and cargo box for a smoother design.

Overall, this edition has a very respectable and constructive silhouette.

Inside the cabin

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD offers a very similar interior theme like the one found in Sierra 1500. The WT and SLE trim sports a bare bone work truck features with an open lower centre portion to seat three person front bench. On the other hand the SLT trim is clad in a layout similar to the GMC Yukon SLT SUV. It has a classy centre stack design dressed in high-quality materials and wood and metallic accents.

The controls are straightforward and easy to reach on both the trims. However we felt that dual-zone climate controls are small and difficult to operate with gloves.

The interiors are quite spacious with comfortable seats. However the tilt only steering wheel is located very close to dash which makes it inconvenient for long legged or tall operators.

Features of 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is available in three trim levels WT (work truck), SLE (mid level) and SLT (premium level). The WT trim is equipped with basic features such as air conditioning, vinyl seating, front bench seat, tilt steering wheel, OnStar, CD player and satellite radio.

The mid level SLE includes chrome style steel wheels, keyless entry, cloth upholstery, leather wrapped steering, full power accessories, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control and heated exterior mirrors.

The premium SLT trim is available with the extended and crew cabs only and features remote engine start upgraded dash design, leather upholstery, remote engine start, locking rear differentials, a heavy-duty trailering package with an integrated trailer brake controller, a Bose audio system with a six-CD changer and rear audio controls and 12-way power-adjustable heated front bucket seats.

2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Powertrain

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD is powered by 6.0 liter V8 engine which pumps out 353 hp and 373 pounds feet of torque. Six speed automatic transmission is standard on all editions.GM offers an option of rear wheel or four wheel drive .

This edition also offers option of high powered burly Duramax 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 engine which produces 365 horsepower and 660 pounds feet of torque. This turbo diesel engine is teamed with an Allison six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD when fully equipped can haul up to 3,458 pounds and tow up to 13,000 pounds.

We noted that this edition offers a well weighted steering that gives the driver greater vehicle control.

Overall, this edition is equipped with rugged engines. The Duramax diesel makes an alluring choice with an excellent performance and decent fuel economy.

2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Safety

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is equipped with antilock disc brakes on all editions while stability control is standard on extended- and crew-cab models with single rear wheels but is unavailable on all other models. The latest version of OnStar, which includes turn-by-turn navigation, is also available as optional feature. Front and side curtain airbags are not available.

Conclusion

The 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is a hard working truck with various advantages like phenomenal towing and hauling capabilities, good build and material quality, congenial seats, and a smooth ride for a HD truck. The only drawback that was noted was non availability of side airbags.
