Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. may use Navistar International Corp’s factories in the US to built its upcoming TR series pick up trucks. This would benefit Mahindra to avoid the chicken tax that is levied on pick up trucks that are produced in most countries outside the US.
Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra’s automotive division told WSJ that if they decide to assemble their pick up truck in the US they would consider Navistar’s facilities. However the decision is expected by December.
Mahindra has plans to start production of the TR series in India. These pick up trucks are expected to be available in the showroom by this spring. They will be sold by Mahindra US based distributor, Global Vehicle Inc.

Navistar is known to build International brand commercial truck, IC bus vehicle, MaxxForce brand diesel engine, and Workhorse brand chassis for step vans and motor homes. Navistar is also known manufacture diesel engine for trucks. They have built diesel engine for Ford Super Duty Trucks till 2009.
Mahindra TR series will be designed on the company’s Scorpio line up. This edition will be available in two body styles viz a two door regular cab and a four door crew cab. They will be equipped with Mahindra‘s mHawk 2.2 liter inline four cylinder diesel engine which is designed as per Us emission regulations.
It is expected that Mahindra TR series would offer a fuel economy of 30 mpg .
This robust edition would be priced at $22,000.

I must say India is developing day by day. I can see a bright future.
Mahindra is going to get a strong competition in US. I don’t think it will be able to survive.
Price is the major factor where this truck can get its success.
Not a bad specification for a new company to start its production and specially when Navistar is engaged with it.
The shape of the car is pretty decent aand looks huge as well.
A pick up truck with fuel economy of 30mpg and also cheap price of $22,000 is there any catch in it?
It is going to rock in India because Indian roads are damn pathetic and irregular. Only tough vehicles like this can be driven.
A company manufacturing engines for Ford and now Mahindra, this proves something.
