Introduction of 2009 Mazda B-Series

The 2009 Mazda B2300 priced at MSRP $16,060 is a true compact pick up truck. This B series edition is drawn on the lines of the Ford Ranger which is the oldest compact truck from this segment. This revamped edition deserves accolades for its low price, dainty size and fuel economy.

What’s on offer?

The 2009 Mazda B2300 involves many deletions.  They have discontinued the high end Cab Plus 4×4 SE model. The new edition ceases to have the four exterior colors, the AM/FM radio has fewer station presets.

Silhouette

The 2009 Mazda B 2300 is designed similar to the Ford Ranger. This compact truck is available in two body styles viz. Regular cab and extended cab. No crew cab is available.

Its front fascia is well styled with chrome bumper and bright work around the grille and headlamps. It power dome hood is also raised to offer a freshening look. The B2300’s rugged body has simple character lines.

Inside the cabin

There is no storage space inside the cabin except for a fold down arm rest and a decent size glove box.

Overall, the cabin has a fairly elegant look and straightforward controls.

Features of 2009 Mazda B-Series

The 2009 Mazda B2300 is available in two trim levels B2300 and B4000. The numbers depict the engine displacement i.e.  B2300 means 2.3 liters engine. The B2300 edition is available only as four wheel drive, regular cab. The B4000 stands for 4.0 liter engine and is available solely as a four wheel drive extended cab.  This edition also sports 15inch steel wheels, sliding rear windows, air windows, AM/FM stereo.

For those who wish to add accessories to this vehicle can choose the SE package for 2300 edition which includes alloy wheels, chrome bumpers and grille, fog lights, bed liner, and a CD player with an auxiliary input jack.

2009 Mazda B-Series Powertrain

The 2009 Mazda B2300 is available in two engine types. The B2300 is equipped with 2.3 liter four cylinder engine which would puts off 143 horsepower and 154 pounds feet of torque. The B4000 edition features a 4.0 liter V6 engine  which would generate  207 horsepower and 238 pounds feet of torque.

Both the editions are teamed to five speed manual transmission and offers an option of five speed automatic transmission.

When fully equipped, the B2300 can tow 2,260 pounds while the B4000 offers a respectable towing capacity of 5,600 pounds.  The B2300 offers an impressive  fuel economy of 21 mpg city levels and 26 mph highway.

We noted that the B2300 feels underpowered with old tech underpinnings resulting in harsh ride over broken pavements. The B4000 seems to be more solid off road performer with good acceleration for its engine. However, it lacks an optional off road package which means all those who need to explore the off road trails would look for other options.

The only positive point that can be noted is that due to its small size it is easy to maneuver.

2009 Mazda B-Series Safety

The 2009 Mazda B2300 is equipped with antilock disc brakes on all models. Other safety features such as stability control and side curtain air bags are not available.

During the various crash test  that were conducted to check the efficiency of these features it scored five stars for the driver and four stars for the front passenger in front impact crash test.

Conclusion

The 2009 Mazda B2300 is ideally designed for all those who have minimal requirements. The main advantages of this edition are impressive fuel economy, manageable size and efficient towing capacity. The main drawback of this edition are lacks many features and options, looks dated, no crew cab model, lacks modern day safety features.

We can conclude that when compared to its competitors such as Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma, Dodge Dakota and Suzuki equator, the 2009 Mazda B2300 lacks in load carrying capabilities, passenger space, modern safety and convenience features.
