Introduction of 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500HD priced at MSRP $26,815 – $44,120 has all the bare bone basic covered, that are needed for a utilitarian truck. This edition offers superior driving dynamics with plush interiors that combines with prodigious towing and hauling capacities. This GMC edition competes with Dodge Ram 3500, Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and Ford F350.

What’s on offer?

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is equipped with Blue tooth connectivity, and the latest version of OnStar which includes turn by turn navigation. It also offers options of latest features such as navigation system with real time traffic feature, and back up camera which is optional on extended and crew cabs.

Silhouette

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500HD is available in three body configurations and two rear axle designs viz. regular cab, extended cab and crew cab with the option of single or dual rear wheels. All the Sierra 3500 HD editions are equipped with eight foot long cargo bed.

This edition offers a visually distinctive body structure in comparison to its Chevy cousins and other Sierra models. This edition offers very unambiguous styling with imposing headlamps and hood along with a more prominent grille opening. General Motors have made perceptible changes in the overall fit and finish of tits body panel. The body has been designed with less space between the cab and cargo box for a smoother design. All models are dressed in chrome bumpers with fog lamps set into the bumpers to offer an upscale appearance.

Inside the cabin

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD features two different interior designs designed according to the trim level. The Work truck and the SLE edition features basic but functional dash design with an open lower centre portion to seat three people on the front bench. On the other hand the premium SLT trim is clad in a layout similar to the GMC Yukon SLT SUV. The SLT trim sports a classy centre stack design dressed in high-quality materials and wood and metallic accents.

The controls are straightforward and easy to reach on both the trims. However, we felt that dual-zone climate controls are small and difficult to operate with gloves

The interiors are spacious with comfortable seating. The rear seats can also comfortably seat adult passengers. We noted that the tilt only steering is situated very close to the dash which would be inconvenient for tall drivers.

Features of 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is available in three trim levels WT (work truck), SLE (mid level) and SLT (premium level).

The WT trim is equipped with basic features such as air conditioning, vinyl seating, front bench seat, tilt steering wheel, a trip computer, OnStar, CD audio system and satellite radio.

The SLE trim adds chrome style steel wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, cloth seating, leather wrapped steering, full power accessories, dual-zone automatic climate control and heated exterior mirrors.

The luxurious SLT trim sports remote engine start upgraded dash design, leather upholstery, remote engine start, an upgraded dash design, locking rear differentials, a heavy-duty trailering package with an integrated trailer brake controller, a Bose audio system with a six-CD changer and rear audio controls and 12-way power-adjustable heated front bucket seats.

2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Powertrain

The 2009 GMC 3500 HD is powered by 6.0 liter V8 engine which pumps out 353 hp and 373 pounds feet of torque. Six speed automatic transmission is standard on all editions. They offer an option of rear wheel or four wheel drive.

This GM edition also offers an option of high powered burly Duramax 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 engine which generates 365 hp and 660 pounds feet of torque. This high powered turbo diesel engine is paired with an Allison six-speed automatic transmission

The 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD when fully equipped can haul up to 5,300 pounds and tow up to 13,000 pounds.

We noted that this edition offered a quiet and comfortable ride even on long distances. This well mannered brute is equipped with a rugged engine but if price is not an issue than the Duramax is an alluring choice.

2009 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Safety

The 2009 GMC 3500HD is equipped with standard antilock disc brakes. Front side and side curtain airbags are not available in this edition. The latest version of OnStar, which includes turn-by-turn navigation, is available as an optional feature.

Conclusion

The 2009 GMC 3500HD is an excellent choice to fulfill your heavy duty needs. The main advantages of this edition are offers a smooth ride for a big truck, excellent towing and hauling capacities, comfortable seats and impressive build and material quality. The only drawback that was noted was non availability of side airbags.

There are prototypes of the GMC Sierra 3500 that are seen test driven on the streets. The spy shots that were taken reveal its new three bar perforated grilles that shares it styling cues from its sibling 2010 GMC Terrain Midsize Crossover.

The recent images that have been floated on various websites reveal a brand new hood that features reverse-power-dome styling with prominent center mounted louvers. With a closer look at these sketches, we found Duramax 6.6 liter embossed on the louver side along with the logo for the Duramax’s six speed Allison transmission.

It is known that this Sierra edition along with General Motors famed Chevy Silverado will be equipped with all new chassis and a next generation 6.6 liter “LML” Duramax V8 clean diesel engine.

There are reports from the insiders that General Motors is working on a seven liter direct injection gas engine which would be immensely powered but would be priced lower than the Duramax Diesel engine vehicle.

It is known that the company has plans to launch the seven liter Di engine edition by 2013.

GM has been tightlipped about this new venture. We shall keep all readers posted on the latest news from the industry. Till then ….keep tuned.
