Volkswagen Amarok – The ‘Wolf’ on The Roads

Posted in Trucking News on March 19, 2010

Volkswagen proclaimed that the production version of their exclusive pick-up truck named ‘Amarok’ will be launched in early 2010 in South America and will be available in Europe by next summer. ‘Amarok’ is the name driven from Inuit language and it means ‘Wolf’ in it. Wolf actually is referred as the king of wilds by the Eskimos and is associated with endurance, power, sturdiness, and dominance. So with the name it becomes apparent what to expect from the new Volkswagen Amarok when it hits the market.

2010 Volkswagen Amarok

With its name personifying its class and standards the Volkswagen Amarok initially will be launched in four-door double cab trim and later there will be a single cab model added in his line. The Engineers at Volkswagen are claiming ‘Amarok’ as a commanding and full-bodied vehicle with immense endurance, but we’ll have to wait and see how true it is when it gets on the roads. But what we do know now is that the Amarok will be offering a munificent load capacity of about 1.15 tones and highest towing limit of 2.8 tones. Amarok have the biggest cargo area of 1555 by 1620 mm (L x W) in its class and also have the most excellent width of 1222 mm, between the wheel arches.

Volkswagen Amarok will be available in rear wheel drive and permanent or switchable 4MOTION all-wheel drive, so the driving fanatics can expect some fun. Though, it should be accredited to an Off-Road ABS and Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), the powerful pick0up now will be able pas throw even the hardest off-road terrain possible with absolute ease. There also will be the Hill Drop Assist available at speeds below 20 mph.

Moreover, there also is the Hill Hold Assist, included in the ESP Plus system, to prevent the rolling back of the vehicle in hills. It will hold the vehicle in its place unless the driver pushes the accelerator, so there is no more exercise for you in the hills. Powering the Amarok will a 2.0 liter Euro5, TDI engine generating maximum power of 163 PS and maximum torque of 400 Nm, and another even more powerful engine of 122 PS TDI engine generating highest torque of 340 Nm from 2,000 rpm. This huge power generated will be taken to the rear or all-wheels through six-speed manual transmission. The expected fuel economy of 200 g/km with really low CO2 emission makes the Volkswagen Amarok even more tempting. So if you are in South America, watch out for it, and if you are in Europe be patient till summer.
